What it does, and where it stops
- Transposition is interval-based, not semitone-based. Going from D major to B♭ major, the leading tone is written D♮, never C×. Key signatures, chord symbols and mid-piece modulations all move by the same interval.
- MusicXML in, MusicXML out. Slurs, dynamics, lyrics, articulations and layout survive untouched; only pitches and key signatures change.
- MIDI input is approximate. MIDI stores no notation, so the importer guesses a key, quantises to sixteenth notes and flattens each track to one voice. Good for hearing a transposition; use MusicXML if you want to print it.
- Repeats are not expanded during playback. The score plays straight through, left to right.
- A picture of a score is not a score. Screenshots, photos and PDFs cannot be transposed, because nothing in them says which notes are on the page. Export MusicXML from your notation software, or convert the image first with an optical music recognition tool.
- Transposing instruments keep their transposition. A B♭ trumpet part stays a B♭ trumpet part; its written pitch moves with everything else.
